Greek Resources

Here are some online resources for ancient Greek (in alphabetical order), if you’re interested. I’ll be adding more sites as I stumble upon them.

Greek Font Society — Greek fonts can be fun. If you want to change the look of your Greek font, there are a few here that might be of interest to you. Some of the fonts at GFS are unicode, some are not.

Greek Language and Linguistics — This is a great website with links to everything from fonts to print and online resources.

Learn Biblical Greek — Teknia is (I believe?) still operated by Bill Mounce, whose introductory text guided many of us as we took our first Greek baby steps. This is a site for those looking to get in on the ground floor, or for those who are looking to go back and sharpen some of those basic skills.

New Testament Greek Vocabulary Flash Cards – This is a resource that I put together over the course of a semester or so. These online “flash cards” contain every word in the Greek NT, and they’re categorized by frequency. If you succeed in learning all words that appear 10-1000+ times, you will more or less cover the vocabulary list found in Morrison & Barnes’ classic resource, NT Word Lists.

Perseus — The Perseus digital library has many ancient Greek texts along with significant texts from other languages. The Greek texts are typically searchable and tagged, so if you’re stuck on a tricky parsing, Perseus can give you a nudge in the right direction. You’ll find the Greek New Testament here, although it is the Westcott-Hort edition, so it is to be used with some caution.

Text Kit — This is a great site for learning Greek and Latin…here, you’ll find older textbooks and grammars (Goodwin, White, Smyth, etc.) that you can download as .pdf files. TextKit also has a fairly robust forum where you can ask and answer questions.
